If you’re interning with a company in the Atlanta area for two or more weeks and you’re at least 18 years old, you can take advantage of the Summer Intern Lodging Program (ILP). This program is open to all university or college students, not just Georgia Tech students. You and your guests can enjoy the convenience, security, and services offered by Housing and Residence Life and our Campus Services partners. We’re thrilled to provide this program to meet the needs of Atlanta-area companies and support the educational mission of Georgia Tech.
Additionally, Georgia State Housing offers an intern housing program. University Commons provides four-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment-style accommodations. Each apartment includes a private, lockable bedroom with a twin bed, chest of drawers, desk, chair, and closet.”

Volunteer Opportunities at Georgia Aquarium
In addition to internships, the Georgia Aquarium offers volunteer programs that allow individuals to contribute to the aquarium’s mission while gaining valuable experience. Volunteer roles include general volunteering and dive volunteering, each with its own set of requirements and application process.
Volunteer Requirements
- Must be 18 years or older
- U.S. citizen, or have a valid work, student, or green card visa
- Commit to at least 100 hours per year
- Pass a background check
- Submit a $60 Volunteer Membership fee
- Excellent communication skills
- Passionate about aquatic life and conservation
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
- Must have own transportation
- Proficiency with computers or smart devices is required, as communication is primarily via email.
Dive Volunteer Applicant Requirements
- Hold an outside dive certification with experience
- Pass a swim and dive test, as well as an interview
- Complete on-site training classes
- Undergo a medical examination (fee associated)
Not all dive applicants are accepted, so commitment in other areas is appreciated.

Fill out the form to register for the session. Remember:
- Registration closes 48 hours before the session.
- Space is limited, so only register for one session.
- Email volunteer@georgiaaquarium.org for cancellations or date change requests.
- Two days before the session, check your email for detailed instructions.
- Attend the Information Session to learn about the volunteer program.
If interested, you’ll receive instructions within a week to:
- Complete an online registration.
- Undergo an online background check within 72 hours.
- Pay a $60 Volunteer Membership fee.
- Once your background check clears and you submit your application and fee, you’ll receive information about signing up for Orientation.
- After completing Orientation, you can start volunteering and receive additional training.
Note: The entire onboarding process usually takes 1-2 months, and you’ll be updated via email at each step.
